Check your meta tags before you publish

Meta tags tell search engines and social apps what a page is about. The title tag becomes the blue headline in Google, the meta description is often the snippet below it, the canonical tells Google which URL to index, and Open Graph tags build the card people see when your link is shared.

Enter a URL to see a Google-style preview, a social card preview, the full list of tags and the page's heading outline. Each check explains what's missing. Fix the title and description first, since they directly affect clicks from search results.

Next, validate the page's structured data with the schema markup validator, or run the full SEO checker for technical and speed issues.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long should a title tag be?

Google shows roughly 50 to 60 characters (about 600 pixels) on desktop before cutting it off. There is no penalty for longer titles, but put the most important words first so they stay visible.

How long should a meta description be?

Aim for about 120 to 160 characters. Google often rewrites descriptions to match the query, but a clear, specific one still improves how often people click.

What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url) control the preview card when someone shares your page on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and most other apps. X (Twitter) reads its own twitter: tags and falls back to Open Graph.

Does the meta keywords tag help SEO?

No. Google has ignored meta keywords for over a decade, so this checker doesn't score it.
