What is AI search visibility?
How easily AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews can find, read and cite your website when someone asks a question your business answers. It has two parts: whether their crawlers can reach and read your pages, and whether the assistants actually mention you.
What does this AI search visibility checker test?
The first part, on your homepage: which AI crawlers your robots.txt allows or blocks (including OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot), how much of the page is readable without JavaScript, structured data that names your business, and whether you publish an llms.txt file.
How do I check if ChatGPT mentions my business?
Ask it the questions your customers ask, such as "best sourdough bakery in Leeds", with search turned on, and note whether you appear and which pages it cites. Repeat in Perplexity and Claude. Do it monthly: answers change. If you never appear, fix crawler access first, then make sure your key pages answer those questions in plain text.
Should I block GPTBot?
GPTBot collects training data; OAI-SearchBot fetches pages for ChatGPT search answers. You can block training and still allow search, and many sites do. Blocking OAI-SearchBot means ChatGPT search cannot read or cite your pages.
Is AI visibility different from SEO?
Mostly it rewards the same things: crawlable pages, clear answers in plain HTML, structured data and a good reputation. The differences are separate crawlers to allow, and the fact that AI assistants quote passages, so pages that answer one question clearly do well.
